Northern Steam Remembered
- Northern Steam Remembered
- The steam scene on the Eastern, North Eastern, London Midland and Scottish Regions of British Railways, from 1949 to the end of steam in 1968, exhibited a wide range of locomotive types and workings. From pre-Grouping survivors to the standard classes of the LMS, LNER and British Railways; and from main line expresses to the ubiquitous pick-up goods, all aspects of northern steam are covered in this album. Whilst the authors have concentrated their attention on the counties of Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham, plus the Scottish Lowlands, the illustrations are far ranging and avoid the more hackneyed photographic locations.
- Divided into six sections covering steam in the landscape; steam on goods; steam on shed; LNER steam; LMS steam; and steam in decline the illustrations are an evocative memory of the variety of engines which traversed British Railways northern routes.
