- The author has more than 50 years service with the GWR and Western Region of British Railways. John Drayton has been in the Guiness Book of Records for over a decade (1984). In the 1984 edition of the book it is written, under Suggestion Boxes: The most prolific example on record of the use of any suggestion box scheme is that of John Drayton (born 18 September 1907) of Newport, Gwent, who has plied British Rail and the companies from which it was formed with a total of 31,028 suggestions from 1924 to 18 April 1984, of which 1 in 7 were accepted.
