Working Timetables - Glossary
- MANDATORY TRAIN SERVICES
- This timetable contains passenger and certain parcels, freightliner and freight services together with associated stock and locomotive movements. These services have been designated "Mandatory" in order to indicate to all concerned that the planned working of these trains must always be maintained.
- The trains concerned will normally be altered through printed supplements and only in exceptional cases will alterations be issued at other times
- CONDITIONAL TRAIN SERVICES
- This timetable contains trains which, because of their less regular nature, do not qualify for inclusion in the Mandatory timetables. They have been designated "Conditional" in order to indicate that they may be subject to short notice cancellation on a day-by-day basis when insufficient traffic is available for movement. In this event, a separate advice will be given.
- PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICES
- This timetable contains passenger and parcels train services together with associated stock and locomotive movements. The importance of these services dictates that the planned working of these trains must always be maintained.
- The trains concerned will normally be altered through printed supplements and only in exceptional cases will alterations be issued at other times
- FREIGHT TRAIN SERVICES
- This timetable contains freight trains which are of a regular nature. There may however be occasions on which they will be subject to short notice cancellation on a day-by-day basis when insufficient traffic is available for movement. On these occasions separate advice will be given.
