- Mr Whitehouse, well known for his other books of superb pictures, has set out to show the main lines of the British Isles and Eire between 1930 and 1964, and a quick flick through these pages will prove how well he has succeeded. In addition to his own pictures there are photographs by such well known experts as Maurice Earley, Eric Treacey, Ivo Peters, E.R.Wethersett, and many others, all of which provide not only a valuable record over the years, but a feast of shots which can only be described as the pick of the bunch.
- Wisely, Mr Whitehouse has decided to keep the quality of the pictures his main concern, but he has also included two short essays at the beginning of the book on railway photography and locomotive performance. These essays, which cover the same period as the photographs, are from the pens of two experts, Maurice Earley and Norman Harvey, and they provide that little bit of extra spice that makes this picture book a real collector's piece.
