- Isle of Man Tramways including the Groudle Glen Railway
- Scenes From The Past: 17 Part 2
- At the end of the nineteenth century, the holiday trade and agriculture were the most important industries of 'Mona's Isle'. It was THE resort for mill owners and workers alike from Lancashire and Yorkshire, it also found favour with folk from the Black Country and the Potteries, perhaps influenced by its mention in the writings of Arnold Bennett in his Five Towns. Fishing, which once employed many boats and several thousand men, following an influx of large modern 'foreign' trawlers played a lesser role in the Manx economy. This unique island had an equally unique Victorian transport system, which remained virtually intact and unchanged until the 1960s.
