GWR Album No.2
- Great Western Album
- Volume 2
- Great Western Album No.2 conveys in nostalgic word and picture something of the splendour of the GWR. After a brief look at the twenty years before the First World War, the story is concentrated on the years 1923-47, although the first decade of the BR is also well depicted, when Swindon was still building Castles and the line seemed as little affected by nationalisation as it had been by the railway grouping.
- Time was when the GWR seemed one of the changeless things in a changing world. Now a complete transformation has taken place and although BR Western Region served its patrons well its outwards appearance had been made to conform with other regions. That this was not always so is proved by a journey through these pages showing the distinctive qualities of the GWR that made men proud to serve it and commanded the devotion of enthusiasts.
