The Early Years of Western Region Steam
- An Album of P.M.Alexander's Photographs

- by P.B.Whitehouse
- Containing 165 black and white photographs mainly concentrated between 1948 and 1952, a time when the former Great Western continued much as before under the guise of the newly formed Western Region. Philip Alexanders photographs naturally feature the last survivors of some of the older locomotive classes and some of the various liveries carried, but most of all they capture the atmosphere of the railway at the time. This album includes views of the main lines west from Wootton Bassett, the main line through the West Country with an impressive sequence on Dainton Bank, and various view around Reading, Llanvihangel, Abergavenny Junction, Talyllyn Junction, Machynlleth etc
