- Locomotives of the LNER

- Part 7 - Tank Engines - Classes A5 to H2
- This part of the Society's survey of LNER locomotives covers thirty four classes consisting of the 4-6-2T, 4-4-2T, 4-4-0T, 2-4-0T, 2-4-2T, 0-4-4T and 4-4-4T types ranging in age from the North Eastern Railway 'BTP' 0-4-4T's of 1874 down to the final batch of Great Central type 4-6-2Ts constructed to LNER order after Grouping in 1925-26. Thirty of the classes existed at Grouping and three more were added by later absorptions, whilst the A8 4-6-2T's were introduced in 1931, being formed by the rebuilding of the H1 4-4-4T's.
- Out of 931 locomotives dealt with in this Part of the LNER withdrew from service 434 leaving 497 of seventeen classes to be handed over to British Railways on 1st January 1948. All have now been condemned the last being a North British Railway 4-4-2T of LNER class C16 in April 1961.
