Atlas of the GWR
- Atlas of the GWR
- as at 1947

- by R.A.Cooke.
- The absence of any fully comprehensive map of the GWR led the author to produce this splendid and much needed atlas. He has attempted to show every passenger station, halt or platform. In addition, every junction is named and all signal boxes are shown. All level crossings (including some that were closed), collieries (the majority closed), sidings (which bore their own name and were geographically distinct), engine sheds, water troughs, tunnels and viaducts, have been included.
- Although this is not an historical atlas with dates of openings and closures, all lines closed before 1947 and those opened since have been shown. The same applies to stations, halts, sidings and signal boxes, so there is much more to be found than just the GWR as it was at nationalisation.
