In the first volume, Chris Leigh detailed the history and development of small wayside stations on the GWR from the original Brunel concept right through to the mass closures of the Beeching era. He described the workings of a typical country station and provided detailed studies and scale drawings of a number of classic structures.
In this volume, volume 2, the author follows the same format as before and provides a pictorial supplement to a number of the original chapters, in places picking up the story to provide the reader with an up to date, (1984), account of some structures.
