O.S. Nock concludes the classic railway literature work started by E.L. Ahrons with this, volume 2, locomotives from 1925 to 1965. Like Ahrons, the author of this volume was a professional engineer, and one who had wide experience of locomotive working both in Great Britain and abroad.
While covering very fully the range of new designs that appeared in the 40 year period of volume 2, he discusses the many locomotive trials that have taken place and the general advance in the standard of performance. Extensive references are made to notable locomotives built for overseas.
The book includes a magnificent collection of illustrations, both in reproductions of photographs, and in many working drawings and diagrams, (some larger locomotive drawings, unfold to reveal their full extent).
